Tour of Milton Cemetery

Please join us as we have a sneak peek at the upcoming book "The Milton Cemetery" by Anthony Sammarco. The book will be published by Fonthill in London and will be available this fall. Who is in the book? Well, it was selective, but the perquisite was that the person had to be buried at the Milton cemetery, and that a photograph could be found! It is like a Who’s Who of former Miltonians of all walks of life, from artists and authors, sports figures, those who served in armed conflicts and wars, philanthropists and businesspeople. The cemetery was the town burying ground since 1672 when it was laid out on the field of Reedman And remained as such for almost 2 centuries. In the 19th century the cemetery was to become a rural, or Arboretum cemetery, with such prominent landscape architects Copeland and Cleveland, Breck and Breck, Whitman and Breck, and Ernest W Bowditch creating the bucolic grounds as we know them today. The tour will be about 90 minutes, and it is suggested that you bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes. A donation of $10 would be most welcome but is not required. All donations go to the cemetery beautification fund. meet at the receiving tomb, in the center of the cemetery opposite the duckpond. .
