Wakefield, MA – The Middlesex Concert Band wraps up its indoor performance season with their annual Spring into Summer concert themed the “Songs of the Heart”. Come and hear the band as Music Director Mark Olson tells you the tales behind some favorite band pieces. The concert is at Galvin Middle School’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Wakefield on Sunday, June 23, 2024 starting at 3:00 pm. Thanks to an anonymous donation, the concert is being provided FREE to the public!
Each carefully selected piece tells a story. Selections include “Heartsongs” by David Maslanka, American Triptych by Jim Curnow which includes the lyrical “Dan Tucker”. Other selections include
“The Town Band” by Erika Svanoe, as well as the famous “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess written by the Gershwins.
The Middlesex Concert Band is a nonprofit community band based in Wakefield, Massachusetts that regularly performs concerts in Wakefield and surrounding communities, striving to bring affordable entertainment to all. Originally founded in the 1950s as a marching band, the group later evolved into a concert band and gave its first performance in the spring of 1975 at Memorial Hall in Melrose. Since then, it has become one of the area’s outstanding community musical organizations, performing in various indoor venues from September through June and presenting a number of free outdoor concerts during the summer months.
