Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767), often overshadowed by his phenomenal contemporary Johann Sebastian Bach, was one of the most prolific composers in history and a leading composer of 18th-century Europe. He composed more than 3,000 works of diverse genres, including operas, sacred cantatas, passions, orchestral suites, concertos, sonatas, quartets, trios, duets, and unaccompanied music. Highly regarded by critics and colleagues, his works were cited as models by theorists such as Johann Mattheson and Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg. This concert is devoted exclusively to the chamber music of Telemann written for solo, duo, and trio.
