On Thursday Dec. 19, the Poetry Salon at Abbot Public Library will feature the poetry of Mark Doty. Since the publication of his first volume of verse, “Turtle, Swan” in 1987, Mark Doty has been recognized as one of the most accomplished poets in America. He has won almost every prize imaginable, writes compelling prose as well as poetry and is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships. In contrast to the dominant art forms of our day, film, video, and architecture, according to Doty, “Poems are always made alone, somewhere out on the edge of things, and if they succeed they are saturated with the texture of the uniquely felt life.”
Please join Claire Keyes, Professor Emerita at Salem State, for a discussion of Mark Doty’s poems at Abbot Public Library in Marblehead. Registration is required to attend in person or via Zoom - please register at tinyurl.com/Mark-Doty-Salon. After registering for Zoom, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting online.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of Abbot Public Library.
