On Thursday, Jan. 16, the Poetry Salon will start the new year with the poetry of Diane Seuss. Her book “Frank: Sonnets” won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2022. In addition, she has published five more poetry collections. She was born in Michigan City, Indiana and grew up in Michigan. An educator as well as a poet, Seuss taught at Kalamazoo College from 1988 until 2016. In 2012, she was the MacLean Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of English at Colorado College. Reviews have noted that Seuss's poems defy simple answers and seem inspired to complicate, drawing connections between seemingly unrelated things, flowing in and out and back and away from their initial triggers. In sum, the poetry of Diane Seuss appears endlessly inventive, combining a skill with language as well as feats of imagination.
Please join Claire Keyes, Professor Emerita at Salem State University, for a discussion of Diane Seuss’s poems at Abbot Public Library in Marblehead. Registration is required to attend in person or via Zoom. Please register at tinyurl.com/Diane-Seuss-Poetry. After registering for Zoom, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting online.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of Abbot Public Library.
