Lectures with Road Scholar: Founding Fathers - The Rivalry That Shaped America

Join us for a livestream of historian, author and professor Louis P. Masur speaking on the rivalry between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Often forced to take a back seat to other Founding Fathers, Hamilton’s vision of America as an economic powerhouse with an energetic government as its engine has found many followers. But Jefferson fought bitterly against the Federalists and his election as president ushered in the “revolution of 1800.” The battle between Hamilton and Jefferson became personal and their rivalry is a reminder of how partisanship was baked into the nation’s early history and shaped debates that continue today. Maeve Hartney, Chief Program Officer of Massachusetts Road Scholar Programs, will lead a viewing of the online lecture at Abbot Public Library, followed by a discussion session. Registration is required and limited to 35. Please register at tinyurl.com/Founding-Fathers-Rivalry. Can't attend in person? Please email [email protected] to be put on the list to receive a recording of the lecture, accessible for two weeks after the program. This program is sponsored by the Friends of Abbot Public Library.
