Jeremiah Lee and the Role of Slavery in Marblehead’s Colonial Economy
Marblehead Museum’s Executive Director, Lauren McCormack, will discuss Colonial Marblehead’s relationship with the Trans-Atlantic Economy. Using merchant Jeremiah Lee as a case study, McCormack will examine how participation in this trade-based economy, which relied upon slave labor and slave-produced goods, enriched not only Marblehead’s merchant class but the entire town as well. She will also look at the ways enslaved people here contributed to Marblehead’s economic life. Find out more about the Marblehead Museum at marbleheadmuseum.org.
