Third Annual Dog Day FAN-dango: Costume Ball for Dogs
The Dog Days of Summer are upon us. While the ancient Greeks associated these 40 days with heat and drought so intense so as to drive people and dogs to madness, there is a fun and playful event coming to Lansing in late August called “Dog Day FAN-dango”. Organized and hosted by the organization Friends Assisting Neighbors (FAN), which raises funds to help Ashe residents pay their winter heating bills, Dog Day FAN-dango (DDF) is a costume ball for dogs or all ages and breeds.
For anyone caring for a canine, DDF is a great opportunity to get Fido, Max or whoever dressed up and entered into the various contests to be judged. The costume competitions will include judging for best homemade, most innovative, most flayboyant, most sophisticated, and cutest costume, among others. And contests for dog behavior will also feature abilities for best trick, most obedient, best howling/singing, greatest smile, and most social (paw-shaking), among others. And to top off the event, a trophy will be presented at the end to the dog judged “Best in Show”. This is the time to make your dog shine!
Aside from the contests, dogs can express their creative talents at the “Dog-casso” painting booth, where these best friends can produce abstract art (without getting any paint on them). And if your dog’s favorite play-toy is in need of repair—the stuffing is coming out?—there will be a “Dog Toy Doc” on call to repair stuffed toys. And, of course, there will be food and live music to enjoy as well.
All dogs attending must be registered, either online at https://givebutter.com/V4k4zy or upon arrival at the event, in order to participate. A $5.00 registration fee will get your dog into any/all contests. Dogs must be on a leash and owners need to state upon registration that all vaccinations are current. Business or individual sponsors can help support the event at a number of donation levels, ranging from “Chihuahua” to “Great Dane”, depending on the amount given. All funds raised will be used to help Ashe residents needing assistance in paying winter heating bills.
So, if you have a dog and that dog has a costume, come on out to Lansing and have fun with FAN. The 3rd Annual Dog Day FAN-dango will be held in Lansing on Saturday, 23 August at Molley Chomper Cidery, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
