Set against the turbulent backdrop of the 1952 polio outbreak in Brooklyn, New York, this powerful stage play exposes a world where women are systematically denied advancement, autonomy, and respect. In a male-dominated hospital, female doctors are pushed into menial roles and told their place is barefoot at home rather than at the bedside saving lives.
At the center stands Dr. Saleem, a brilliant and determined physician who, alongside her colleagues, risks everything to serve the sick and vulnerable during a public health crisis. Her resolve is fiercely challenged by Dr. Emman, a domineering male counterpart whose deeply rooted misogyny fuels chaos and cruelty within the hospital walls. As lives hang in the balance, the play confronts injustice, resilience, and the cost of daring to defy a system designed to silence women.
