Make Music Day is an established global celebration of music, originating in Paris in 1982 as "Fetes de Musique," and celebrated each year on June 21st, the Summer Solstice- the longest day of the year. Make Music Day is now celebrated in many countries in Europe, including France, The United Kingdom, and Italy, as well as China, and 117 United States cities. Although each celebration is different, the idea is to allow anyone and everyone to participate in making music of any kind, regardless of prior training or expertise, on one day each year. This is the second time it’s being held in Palm Beach County in five years.
“This is a team effort that brings together both well-established and unique musical locations or venues with music-makers and enthusiasts of Palm Beach County. Performers and venue providers can register on a special website that will match them together and their scheduled performances will be posted on the site, along with timing and GPS directions,” says Suzanne Boyd, Steering Committee Organizer, and Director of Marketing for Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority, which manages one of the Make Music Day venues: Delray Old School Square. The West Palm Beach hubs will be Clematis Street by the fountains, The Square, and the Northwood Art and Music Warehouse, to name a few. Time to get your instrument out of the closet and come out and jam in the streets with other musicians.
