Austin Smiles 27th Annual Shoot for a Smile
"Join Austin Smiles for our second biggest fundraiser of the year! Austin Smiles 27th Annual Shoot for a Smile, Presented by Independence Title. This year our Shoot for a Smile Clay Sporting Competition and Fundraiser is Friday, the 12th of April, 2024. This annual event hosts around 200 guests. The event includes: 4-man shooting teams on a 50-target course, YETI cooler auction, raffle, BBQ luncheon, silent auction, and shooting games. The tournament is set up in the Lewis Class System. Each shooter should bring his or her 20-gauge or 12-gauge shotgun and glasses for eye protection. Earplugs are provided. Registration required. All proceeds benefit the life-changing mission of Austin Smiles.
Registration begins at 8 am and the event concludes at 4 pm. Breakfast and lunch will be served and an open bar available after shooting, with a LIVE Auction of 3 YETI Coolers happening at 12:30pm.
ABOUT AUSTIN SMILES: Austin Smiles is a 37-year-old nonprofit providing cleft lip and palate surgical and postsurgical care to children in both Latin America and Central Texas. Families in Latin America who receive these free cleft care services, are often lower-income without Austin Smiles their children would go hungry, would be ostracized from the world and would never get to become the individual they were always meant to be.
THE NEED:
One in 700 children is born with a cleft lip and/or palate, this condition impacts the child’s ability to communicate intelligibly, reach developmental milestones, receive proper nourishment, and their overall quality of life. Moreover children born with this condition often experience social/emotional issues related to stigma, ridicule and feelings of isolation.  Austin Smiles, in collaboration with local and in-country entities, aims to develop a continuum of care to identify and treat these children as early as possible.
Each year the team takes 3 medical mission trips to Latin America where they perform life changing surgeries and offer postsurgical support, dental services, and speech therapy to close to 100 children born with cleft lip and/or palate per trip. In Central Texas, Austin Smiles provides social and emotional programming, speech therapy, patient advocacy/ referrals, and other wraparound supports to over 800 patients from Dell Children's Medical's Craniofacial and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Center and other nonprofit providers. All of Austin Smiles services are provided free of cost, empowering children and their families with the ability to heal both physically and emotionally."
