PrintAustin works with Link & Pin Gallery annually to create an invitational exhibition. This year we're excited to present Anthony Huang.
Chinese artist, Anthony Huang, reflects on urban dwellers' contemporary challenges, attributing their mental instability to the incessant exposure to new information. Contemplating whether humans shape their world or are defined by its predetermined existence, Huang draws inspiration from Daoist philosophies, particularly 無為 (Wu Wei) and the traditional Chinese concept of 遊觀 (travel and observation). Engaging with these ideas, Huang seeks to provide short-term solace and spiritual sublimation for city dwellers through his contemporary artworks.
A recurring motif in his pieces is the symbolic use of birds, representing travel and observation, offering viewers a unique perspective on the world. Huang’s exploration of Wu Wei, manifested in the cycles of nature and the meditative state of "Flow" during the creative process, aims to guide viewers into a moment of mental rest. Through intricate prints devoid of human and artificial elements, Anthony creates a space for viewers to experience the "Flow" and embark on a journey of spiritual exploration, extending the timeless connection between self and universe that his ancestors have explored for thousands of years.
