That movie was Star Wars, but we don't care about that. Released at the same time, and almost immediately panned by critics and flopping at the box office, was William Friedkin's magnum opus Sorcerer.
With Roy Scheider leading a cast of largely unknowns, this anxiety-inducing nightmare of a film is a jaw-dropping watch on the big screen. Four men drive a truck full of explosives through a forest, up a mountain, and across a river during a tropical storm. Friedkin filmed this by, more or less, doing exactly that without the explosives.
