Pure, angel-faced Phoebe Cates gets absolutely tortured by an unhinged Rik Mayall for 101 minutes—this was my favorite movie as a kid?! That explains a LOT. Drop Dead Fred is about an imaginary friend (or is it about mental illness?) so it might seem like it’s a children’s movie but I’d argue it’s more akin to a existential horror movie wrapped in primary colors. This movie rules. It’s gross, it’s funny, it’s annoying, it’s sweet, and it has Carrie Fisher. What more could you want?
