Out of Ink: Not in the Cards

We all make mistakes, misinterpretations, and questionable moves. This year those things are in the spotlight in ScriptWorks’ OUT OF INK 2024: Not In the Cards. This varied collection of ten-minute plays reveals ScriptWorks’ members creative renderings of three mandatory script ingredients that provided inspiration during the Weekend Fling 48-hour writing event in the fall. This year marketer and entrepreneur Aaron M. Clay, University of North Carolina professor Jacqueline Lawton, and co-artistic director of Ground Floor Theatre Lisa Scheps provided the following ingredients: Mistaken identity Choreography with no apparent music Someone repeatedly misinterprets a tarot card At the end of the Weekend Fling, the plays were read in a ScriptWorks Salon. From the thirty-plus plays submitted, a selection committee consisting of ScriptWorks board member Jennine “Doc” Krueger, director Lacey Cannon Gonzales, and non-applying member and Out of Ink alum Kirk German, chose eight plays for production in Out of Ink . The scripts were written by: Kathleen Fletcher, Raul Garza, Ava Love Hanna, Christine Hoang, Ty Spencer Hoppe, Aneesa Needel, Sarah Saltwick, and Audrey Webb. The plays will be performed by an ensemble of actors comprised of Roxy Becker, Zac Carr, Karina Dominguez, Kathleen Fletcher, Shannon Grounds, Alani Henry, Gina Houston, Chelsea Manasseri, Eliza Renner, Norman Tran, Juleeane Villarreal, and Johanna Whitmore. They’ll be directed by Lowell Bartholomee, Rosalind Faires, Ellie McBride, Christina J. Moore, and Sharon Sparlin. Designers for the project are Lowell Bartholomee (sound/video), Pam Friday (costumes), Amy Lewis (lights), and Liz Tyson (sets/props). ABOUT SCRIPTWORKS ScriptWorks is a playwright-driven organization that seeks to promote the craft of dramatic writing and to protect the playwright's integrity by encouraging playwright initiative and harnessing collective potential.
