Matt Smith's World Headlines The Backstage at El Mercado South
Matt Smith is a highly versatile and accomplished musician based in Austin. With over 45 years of experience, he has made significant contributions as a performer, producer, instructor, and multi-instrumentalist. Smith is known for his proficiency in various musical styles including blues, jazz, country, funk, and folk, and plays a wide range of instruments such as the guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro, and steel guitar.
Smith's career includes performing at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and collaborating with renowned artists such as B.B. King, Sheryl Crow, and Trey Anastasio. He has also participated in international guitar festivals, further showcasing his musical talents. His bands include The Matt Smith Band, The Monstas, and The Hot Nut Riveters, with numerous albums to his name like "Black and White," "Big Fun," and "Matt Smith’s World Live at the Saxon Pub."
As a producer, Smith has been instrumental in creating albums for various Austin artists and bands, working out of his central Austin studio, 6 String Ranch. His teaching career is equally impressive, having served as a senior faculty member at the National Guitar Workshop and conducting master classes internationally for decades.
