Out of the Closet celebrates local queer artists and their relationship to fashion. From drag to everyday dress, the LGBTQIA2+ community has always used fashion as a way to send not so subtle messages about who they are. Clothing is a key element in gender expression and ways in which we make it our own. Flowers, pin-back buttons, and earrings were accessories that could be easily taken off for safety purposes. To this day carabiners and bandannas are famously used in flagging and cruising culture.
Enjoy a mini market with art and clothes for sale by the artists in the show, drag performances (@8PM), and a clothing alteration station where you will be able to make pins, decorate your clothes with fabric paint, and can apply DIY patches. Please bring a couple of clothes items with you to participate in this activity! There will also be snacks and refreshments available.
