Grey Gardens, A BENEFIT FOR AUSTIN PLAYHOUSE!

Big Edie and Little Edie untangle the complicated dynamics of their dysfunctional mother/daughter relationship in this award-winning musical. The Beales were Jacqueline Kennedy's aunt and cousin, respectively. Set at Grey Gardens, the Bouviers' mansion in East Hampton, New York, this musical tracks the progression of the two women's lives from their original status as rich and socially polished aristocrats to their eventual largely isolated existence in a home overrun by cats and cited for repeated health code violations. The off-Broadway run of this musical earned five Lucille Lortel Award nominations and twelve Drama Desk Award nominations. When it transferred to Broadway with revisions, it ran for 33 previews and 307 performances. The production was nominated for 10 Tony Awards in 2007, winning three. ABOUT THE AUSTIN PLAYHOUSE BUILDING FUND: Austin Playhouse Arts Center We're building an Arts Center that will be a community hub for Austin Playhouse artists and patrons as well as serving dozens of local arts organizations. You have a crucial part to play in bringing the dream to life. In April 2019, Austin Playhouse purchased a 2.8 acre site located at 1717 E. Anderson Lane along the 183 frontage road in northeast Austin. We engaged Forge Craft Architecture to design a welcoming and accessible arts center that will serve as a creative hub for Austin artists and provide tremendous growth opportunities for both Austin Playhouse and AP’s partners in the arts. The facility is fully permitted and shovel ready. Austin Playhouse has already completed Phase 1 of the building campaign by raising $1,500,000 for land purchase, initial architectural drawings, engineering plans, a feasibility study and project consultants. We are in the middle of Phase 2 with a $7,500,000 goal that includes site development and building construction.
