THE LIVING ROOM STORY-TIME FOR GROWN-UPS
When a person signs up to tell a story at the LIVING ROOM, they sign up at one of the gatherings or contact the host to offer their story. To see when their story can be told we talk, a conversation begins that involves free coaching for the storyteller to help them organize their true story into a 12 minute slot. The monthly subjects vary and they are often inspired by the stories themselves. For example, right now the host has at least 15 stories waiting for complementary counterparts. The themes are purposefully broad so that the storytellers can enjoy them as prompts to help them create their story. The host, Amparo Garcia-Crow, a former teaching artist professor at UT and ACC, is also an actor, director, writer and songwriter. She combines that background to offer free monthly workshops at Twin Oaks Library to help locals learn how to craft their stories. To sign up for those workshops, attendees contact Garcia-Crow directly or they sign up at the Story-time public gatherings to reserve their space.
