OCL Teen Craft to Commemorate Native American Heritage Month


TOMS RIVER – In honor of Native American Heritage Month, teens and ‘tweens can discover the time-honored ingenuity of harnessing harvested food for multiple uses in a special crafting program. “Ink from Acorn for Teens” will be offered at four Ocean County Library branches in November. • Waretown Branch – 6 PM Monday, November 6, 112 Main Street, (609) 693-5133. • Long Beach Island Branch – 5 PM Wednesday, November 8, 217 South Central Avenue, Surf City, (609) 494-2480. • Plumsted Branch – 3 PM Thursday, November 9, 119 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, (609) 758-7888. • Little Egg Harbor Branch – 3 PM Tuesday, November 14, 290 Mathistown Road, (609) 294-1197. Debbie Hadley will discuss the technique of removing bitter tannins from foods to make them edible, and the making of pigments from tannins extracted from acorns, oak galls and other natural sources. Teens will create their own small batches of natural ink to take home.
