Barton Field

On a summer night in Georgia, 1865, Clara Barton is hard at work digging in the soil of Andersonville. Her purpose: The establishment of a national cemetery for the fallen Union soldiers. Her dilemma: So many unknowns, so many obstacles, and the push and pull of being a woman of valor in a man's world. Clara Barton is brought to life by veteran Atlanta actress Kathleen McManus as she expertly relays the atrocities and devastation of the American Civil War while also sharing the personal struggles, humiliations, and triumphs of a fiercely independent woman in the 19th century. During a time when women were oppressed under the shackles of a male-dominated society, Barton Field captures the unwavering spirit of a woman who was known as the "Angel of the Battlefield." Through a combination of vivid storytelling and rich multimedia, this groundbreaking one-woman play honors Clara Barton's legacy, emphasizing themes of courage, service, and the enduring impact of one individual's dedication to humanity. It is a must-see for history enthusiasts, theater lovers, nurse practitioners, and anyone inspired by stories of extraordinary women who changed the world.
