About M & J:
What started as a high school history project in 2010 has evolved into a full 18-piece big band. Originally started as a project for a “History Night” project on the history of big band jazz at Pottsville Area High School, the M&J Big Band is led by John Shoener, with assistance from Jacob Shoener and Josh Kovich. Our mentor from the start has been musician Larry Koch of Pottsville’s famed Braun School of Music, founded in 1912. The M&J Big Band hails from the City of Pottsville, PA and celebrates 14 years of playing great big band music!
The band has appeared all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including tributes to Les Brown, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, the band has also performed at venues including: The Valencia Ballroom, The Lakeside Ballroom, Catalpa Grove at Lakewood Park, The Sunnybrook Ballroom, Pine View Acres, Yuengling Mansion, Hebron Events, Valley View Park, Kennedy Park, Bubeck Park, Heisler’s Dairy Bar, Pottsville Area High School, Shenandoah Valley High School, North Schuylkill High School, and the Majestic Theater in Pottsville.
