Learn more about the coal industry, the canal locks, and life on a canal boat on the Lehigh Canal as you peddle 4 miles on the towpath to Canal Park in Allentown. Then Wildlands’ Safety Guides will fit you with PFDs (Personal Floatation Devices) and paddles, as you clamber into canoes to paddle downstream back to Sand Island in Bethlehem. This trip is appropriate for ages 10 and older. Wildlands provides bike helmets, bicycles, canoes, paddles, and PFDs. You bring a lunch, water shoes, sunscreen, a sun hat, and your sense of adventure to explore the “Metro-Wilderness.” Bathrooms are available at both Sand Island and Canal Park. This event is part of the Get Out! For Wellness series, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network. This GOFW event has a nominal fee of $20/per person to cover equipment costs. The end of the exit ramp turn right onto 8th Avenue. Travel 0.8 miles to W. Lehigh Street. Turn left onto W. Lehigh and travel 0.6 miles to Main Street. There, at the four-way stop sign turn right onto Main Street and go just 400 feet south to River Street. Turn right and go under two bridges (about 0.2 miles). Park in the big parking lot.
