Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a featured event to view the artwork of Painter, Marcia Rackstraw: Reflecting on a Lifetime of Art, a Retrospective, Exhibit runs from September 1 - 27. Reflecting on a Lifetime of Art, a Retrospective, is Wild Hearts Gallery’s tribute to longtime gallery member Marcia Rackstraw. This fifth and final exhibit of Rackstraw’s work at the gallery will display select pieces from her various series of work including zebras, botanicals, shells, koi and a most recent series of “vertical rooms” filled with mysterious hints of figures and tropical greenery. Works include oil paintings on canvas, woodblock prints, and charcoal on paper. After growing up in Palo Alto, California, Marcia moved to Placitas in 1981. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1983 from the University of New Mexico. She then spent 26 years as an advertising designer for a small Albuquerque publishing company, rising to the position of art director before she retired in 2014. She put her design skills to work for the gallery and for the Placitas Studio Tour along with maintaining a working studio throughout these years in Placitas. Her studio was always her “happy place”. “For the past fifty years, Marce has filled our home and our lives with color, beauty, and creativity. Through her stunning drawings, prints, and paintings, she turned everyday moments into lasting art. Every birthday, she would gift me custom drawings that captured our shared history—weaving together photos, cards, our favorite flowers, our beloved pets, and even pieces of fabric from the dresses she lovingly made for me. ... I truly couldn’t have asked for a better second mom.” Jody Aubrey Wild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective, supported by 14 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Take a visual tour of monthly exhibits in the gallery at wildheartsgallery.com.
