The National Liberty Museum presents a free screening of the Indie Lens Pop-Up Film, "Meet the Patels,� the story of almost-30 and still-single Ravie Patel and his tradition-minded Hindu family. After he breaks up with his white girlfriend, Ravie enters the semi-arranged marriage system in America. "Meet the Patels� explores the influences of culture and identity on the most intense, personal, and important part of one's life – love. The candor and empathy of this fun and engaging film allow it to make keen points about love, marriage, family, and the unexpected complications that American freedoms can bring to immigrant lives.
Panel discussion follows the film screening, moderated by Dr. Fariha Khan, Associate Director, Asian American Studies, University of Pennsylvania. Seating is limited, registration recommended. The event will take place on Thursday, December 1 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at 321 Chestnut Street.
