Third Coast Percussion - Terry Riley "In C"
In this interactive music workshop, participants will explore Terry Riley's "In C" We’re thrilled to invite you to participate in a workshop for all musicians on the piece "In C", an exciting open instrumentation musical work by American composer Terry Riley.
Terry Riley’s "In C" (composed in 1964) is a landmark minimalist work, which has been performed thousands of times across the world. It can be performed by an ensemble made up of any type and number of musicians, and is comprised of 53 repeating melodic cells through which each player progresses independently. The material is easy enough to be performed by middle and high school students, and the work provides a unique opportunity to develop listening abilities and ensemble skills for musicians of all backgrounds.
For successful participation in this workshop, one should:
Be able to read music if performing on an instrument that plays pitches, or be comfortable improvising if playing on non-pitched percussion.

Performing and listening to this work is unlike any other concert experience. Third Coast Percussion will give a workshop on the piece and lead a group performance with workshop participants that promises to be a memorable occasion for both students and professionals alike!
