Lecture: The Local History of Factory Bread at Troy Public Library

A hundred years ago, small bakeries and big factories vied to get their bread in people's kitchens. Home bakers were still making their own, too. How did these breads differ from each other, and how do they compare to breads today? Join Amy Halloran on Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. for an exploration of Troy breads, and hear the stories of Freihofer's and a few area bakeries of much smaller scale. Recipes & samples will be provided! This talk is part of a grant Amy received with the help of the Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market, where she's hosting food memory booths this fall. This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region. No registration is required. Find out more by going to our website at www.thetroylibrary.org.
