The Carnival of the Animals
This rich and varied program begins with Baroque works for different instrumental combinations, and continues with Ravel’s Introduction et allegro for the unusual cast of harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet. The piece is a riotously fun depiction of all kinds of animals, from turtles and kangaroos to lions, birds, and—taking the joke a step further—even pianists!
