Adult Historical Fiction Writing Workshop

On Saturday, October 26th, Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site will host a historical fiction writing workshop for adults. The workshop will be held at Schuyler Mansion from 10AM to 1PM. It is open to anyone aged 14 and older. The workshop will feature a tour of Schuyler Mansion as well as immersive activities, such as handling reproduction objects and writing in one of the rooms of the mansion. Participants will also look at select original 19th century documents and learn how to incorporate a variety of sources, such as letters and receipts, into a story. Participants will explore the history of the 18th and 19th century Schuyler family, as well as the basics of writing historical fiction. There will be time to write in one of the mansion rooms and participants will receive a starter guide to the Schuylers to provide inspiration. The program is $7 per person and spots are limited. Reservations are required and must be made by calling and speaking with site staff. Call 518-434-0834 to make a reservation. Schuyler Mansion is located at 32 Catherine Street in Albany’s historic South End and was the 18th-century home of Revolutionary War Major-General Philip Schuyler (1733-1804) and his family. The mansion is open for guided tours Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (through Oct 31st). For further information, please visit www.parks.ny.gov or find us on social media.
