"Resume: A Work In Progress" Opening Reception
This collection of paintings and mixed media artworks tell a story about proving the inherent worth of women- at home and beyond- whether working part-time, full-time or as stay-at-home moms. Each piece consists of old paint peeled from the artist's palettes, found objects and recycled materials, reflecting themes of transformation and renewal.
Featured artist Ashley Kitto runs PETS by AKD, a small business painting pet portraits in Clifton Park, New York. She studied at Savannah College of Art and Design, majoring in Animation. After going through a personal separation last year, she wanted to explore the theme of turning something old into something new. The artworks on view tell a story about how things (or people) that have been discarded can be transformed into something beautiful. Many of these involve re-imagining previous pieces that she has created, and all of them represent a “job” that she's held in the past. She used nature as an overarching theme, grounding her journey over the past year.
The art is somewhat interactive.. you can view the inside of the painting as well as the outside! Walk around the "see through" paintings and be fully immersed in how art comes to life! The show runs from April 5 to 26, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, April 12th from 2-4pm.
