Can I Eat This? Date: Oct 12, 2025 Time: 1:00 PM Location: The Nicholas J. Juried Meeting House Registration: Arboretum members: $30; non-members $40 The Wild Fall Harvest Discover the edible plants and mushrooms of the Northeastern autumn, and learn hands-on techniques for harvesting, preparing, and cooking them. Join instructor Sean Rowe — an accomplished musician and performer and host of the youtube video series "Can I Eat This?" with a lifelong passion for foraging and more than 25 years of experience identifying, gathering, and preparing the wild foods of the Northeast. Class date and time: Sunday, October 12, 1 – 4 pm Registration: Arboretum members $30; non-members $40. Register early - the class is capped at 15 participants, and will not run with fewer than 10. What to expect: We’ll begin with a short talk, then head out for a one-hour walk on the grounds to explore seasonal wild plants and mushrooms. You’ll learn how to recognize them safely and how they’ve been used for food historically speaking. Afterward, we’ll gather in the meeting house kitchen for a two-hour demonstration. Together we’ll cover traditional fall staples like processing acorns into flour, cracking and curing Black Walnuts and hickories, juicing Autumn Olives, making Nannyberry purée, and more. Suggested items to bring: Notebook Sturdy hiking boots Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants by Samuel Thayer (highly recommended for our region)
