Commonly thought to be either a plant or a fungus, lichen is a composite organism of the two types of life forms living together. During this guided nature walk, we will dive into the biology of lichen with lichenologist James Lendemer. Together, we will learn about the importance of lichen to the environment and how to identify the most common species in Columbia County.
We know you’ll be lichen this program and leaving with lots of new information!
What to expect: We will walk about one mile along the Streamside and Tamarack trails, which both feature forested, packed earth with exposed roots.
What to bring: Bring water and wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. Social, leashed dogs are welcome, but please bring bags for waste!
