Grammy-nominated and NAACP Image Award–winning vocalist, composer, writer, and performer Somi opens Zankel’s Well-Being Concert series with an uplifting and deeply expressive performance shaped by jazz, soul, African musical traditions, and story-based songwriting.
Hosted by Teisha Duncan, this intimate concert combines live performance with simple guided restorative practices such as breathing, mindfulness, and deep listening, in an immersive, nurturing space. Audience members will be seated onstage with the performers, and can choose from a variety of casual and comfortable seating options, with mats, cushions, and chairs all available on a first-come, first-served basis. No experience with mindfulness or meditation is needed—only a willingness to listen, breathe, and be present.
About Well-Being Concerts
Well-Being Concerts combine live music with explorations of mindfulness, self-care, and communal connection. Each concert is designed as a restorative listening experience, offering audiences the chance to slow down, be present, and experience music as a source of well-being.
The Skidmore series is being developed in collaboration with partners in our community, including Wellspring and the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office. Together, the partners will help shape restorative practices and connect the concerts with people who may benefit from them. A portion of the available space for each performance will be reserved for community members invited through these partnerships.
