Children's Creative Writing Workshop

From Tuesday, August 6th to Thursday, August 8th, Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site will be hosting a creative writing workshop for children aged 8 to 13. The workshop will be held at Schuyler Mansion and goes from 9AM to 1PM each day. The workshop will feature a tour of Schuyler Mansion as well as immersive activities, such as playing 18th century games, handling reproduction objects, a craft, and brainstorming story ideas in one of the rooms of the mansion. The children will also be able to look at select original 19th century documents under the guidance of their instructor. Children will learn the history of 18th and 19th century Schuylers, as well as the basics of writing historical fiction. They will write one short story, which will be typed and printed for them to illustrate on the last day of the workshop. The program is free of charge, but spots are limited and must be reserved by calling and speaking with site staff. You can call 518-434-0834 to make a reservation for your child. Schuyler Mansion is located at 32 Catherine Street in Albany’s historic South End and was the 18th-century home of Revolutionary War Major-General Philip Schuyler (1733-1804) and his family. The mansion is open for guided tours Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (through Oct 31st). For further information, please visit www.parks.ny.gov or find us on social media.
