Duke Tumatoe at Jilly's Music Room
Blues legend and showman Duke Tumatoe is back with a brand-new album, marking his first release in eight years and his first without longtime keyboardist James Hill. Aptly titled, “Have You Seen My Keys?,” this record is a vibrant evolution of Duke’s classic sound, infused with fiery horns, deep funk grooves, and his signature humor-laced lyricism.
After a long-awaited hiatus, Tumatoe delivers a record that feels both familiar and fresh. While fans will recognize the biting wit and gritty blues guitar that made him a Midwest staple, this album breaks new ground with dynamic horn sections and bold arrangements that nod to the energy of vintage funk and rock 'n' roll.
“This record really lets the horns talk,” said Tumatoe. “We pushed the sound into new territory, but it still feels like Duke Tumatoe - just with a bit more brass and bite.”
The album is also the first since the passing of keyboardist James Hill, who had been a key member of the band for decades. While his absence is felt, Tumatoe embraces the change with a fresh musical direction that highlights a powerful rhythm section and a lineup of talented new collaborators.
With tracks that groove, punch, and poke fun at life in classic Tumatoe fashion, the album is a testament to his enduring creativity and refusal to be boxed in. Whether he's laughing at life’s absurdities or tearing into a guitar solo, Duke proves once again that age only sharpens his edge.
