Rubber City Rebels: The Bicentennial and the Birth of the Akron Sound
The Summit County Historical Society of Akron, OH will hold its 102nd annual meeting on Thursday, May 21st at the Hilton Garden Inn as an America250 event.
David Giffels, nationally recognized author and professor at The University of Akron, will be the guest speaker. He will share his memories of the 1976 Bicentennial here in Akron and Summit County and how that time related to the birth of the Akron Sound during strikes of the rubber industry. The event will also include vintage images and artifact vignettes.
Patron tickets provide an additional ticket to a patron porch party at the Perkins Stone Mansion with David Giffels. That evening will include appetizers, drinks and talk about great music history. The date is set for June 29th from 6-8 p.m.
Tickets are $55 per person or $100 for patron tickets. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite (https://bit.ly/SocietyAM26)
The meal includes salad, baked brie en croute, a pasta bar, a southern smoked brisket with mashed sweet potatoes bar and dessert (flourless chocolate torte or cheesecake or vegan cupcake). Thanks to the amazing staff at the Akron Hilton Garden Inn, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options will be available. Please answer the questions accordingly.
