Courageous Conversations Take Teamwork

DMAX Foundation is a non-profit organization in Philadelphia, PA, whose mission is to eliminate stigma and encourage safe and caring conversations about mental issues and emotional concerns in our youth, particularly in colleges.

On April 4, 2018, we are having our annual Spring Educational Event, with this year's subject “Courageous Conversations Take Teamwork” which will focus on mental health and athletes. It will be held in Bryn Mawr, PA and will feature former professional athletes, an athletic coach, and an athletic director.

Athletes are perceived as successful and strong and able to meet every challenge. As a result, there is increased pressure to keep silent about emotional pain, to the extent that emotional needs are often overlooked. DMAX believes that having Courageous Conversations about mental health is critical. Because athletes are important roles models to our young people, hearing from them about their emotional life will help make a difference in the ability of others to do the same. When young people can talk about mental health, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that can lead to tragic results.

Our panelists will talk about mental health and the importance of having courageous conversations. They include:

NFL star Blair Thomas (moderator), running back for the Jets, Cowboys, and Panthers (college ball at Penn State);
NHL recruited player (Montreal Canadiens), Athletic Director and Coach Brady Kramer;
NFL player, Michael Haynes, defensive end for the Bears (college ball at Penn State)
UPenn football player and leader in the Kyle Ambrogi Foundation, Greg Ambrogi
Olympic Field Hockey Medalist, 3-time All American and Penn State Field Hockey Coach, Charlene Morrett.
