Artist, musician, activist, poet, and actor Karen Finley is the author and/or editor of eight books, has artwork in many of the world's great museum collections, and has performed on the most esteemed stages in the world. Often labeled obscene due to graphic displays of sex, abuse, and other taboo topics, she was vilified during the American culture wars of the 1980s and 1990s. Her diverse body of work has garnered her a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Obies, and Ms. Magazine's Woman of the Year Award. In the new edition her seminal work about homophobia, misogyny, and rebellion during the darkest days of the AIDS epidemic, the firebrand author reflects on her first book and responds to these and new issues with delicacy and humor.
