Petrology - an exhibition hosted @ DVAA in Gallery 2 July 25th - August 5th Artwork in various media by DVAA member Rebecca Schultz Artist Reception: Wednesday, July 25th from 6-8pm
DVAA is proud to host Petrology, an exhibition in Gallery 2 of artwork by Rebecca Schultz. This exhibition runs concurrently with the DVAA hosted exhibition in Gallery 1, LOOK AT US.
Petrology is an exhibition comprised of large-scale paintings inspired by the rock formations that Schultz sketched in Iceland, New England, Wyoming, and the Philadelphia region. This work has informed both the formal and emotional elements of her process: the varied shapes and lines found in rocks in different geographic locations have introduced her to new modes of mark-making and composition, and observing rocks in relationship to their surrounding landscapes evokes reflections on impermanence. While rocks appear immutable, they are formed by the most dynamic and elemental processes on our planet. The timescale of their evolution invites contemplation of what they have witnessed and what they will experience as our planet continues to change.
