Like many of us, mixed media abstract artist Barbara Shelly is both attracted to and disturbed by newspaper headlines. Her reactions are reflected in her recent work on display in a special solo exhibit, OF THE TIMES, at Goddard Riverside Community Center. Shelly uses The New York Times as inspiration and background. Headlines behind the paint form both intentional and unintentional commentary on current social and political dialogue.Â

OF THE TIMES is part of Women’s History Art Month (WHAM) at Goddard Riverside Community Center. WHAM features 12 exciting events by and about women in music, theater and comedy. 50% of proceeds from Barbara Shelly’s exhibit go to the non-profit Ballet and Beyond NYC (balletandbeyondnyc.org) an urban program that brings professional dance training to children.Â
